Allergic to cats? What should I do?
I was extremely allergic to cat dander until I adopted two kittens (who are both 9-months-old now). Now that I have these two cats, my allergies don't exploit up as much. I started volunteering at the local Humane Society in my town on Monday. I picked up this job because I love animals and I thought that I would be used to being around abundantly of cats and my allergies wouldn't act up since I have two of my own. Well the two days I've been working near, I was coughing, sneezing ocasionally, and breathing/heaving hard. But my eyes didn't get runny and my throat didn't hurt. I didn't feel like I was roughly speaking to pass out, but I was stopped up. They only enjoy cats there (about 40) but no other animals so I have no choice but to be around cats. But i don't understand why my allergies are acting up when I'm at work but not at home where on earth i have cats also. I'm concerned that being at the Humane Society will affect my Health. Should I continue working near? I want to but I'm worried that i will become ill. I told them i was coming this evening but i don't know. Will wearing a mask and gloves support?

You're used to the cats at home. That's why they don't affect you so badly.
Buy and over-the-counter antihistamine.
oncern is about your breathing/breathing hard problems and I think you should see your doctor roughly that. Until then:
Use Claritin or Benadryl or any other antihistamine some hours before you report to the shelter. It is possible that you are reacting because you are around so lots cats and your system is overwhelmed. I don't think that allergies can affect your health if they are just to specific triggers, but, because you are have problems breathing and are breathing hard, you should ask to be checked for asthma. You can aggravate that and make it worse. Tell your doctor your specific symptoms.
A mask will help if you wear it properly and don't take it stale. Also, washing your hands before you touch your facade. You can buy masks made especially for allergic reactions.
I click on this site daily: www.theanimalrescuesite.com. Once you click, you can vote to enjoy them donate to a specific shelter. Click on the donation thingy and enter your city & state and you will get a list of animal shelters of all kind. I am in a fairly large city and nearby are 35 rescue shelters in my city alone. Get an antihistamine like Claritin. You can buy these at your local pharmacy and most major supermarkets. Just ask the pharmacist there or pick one out - you don't obligation a prescription.
My daughter is quite allergic to cats but loves them dearly. She has over years come to think through that every cat is different and she is not allergic to every single cat in the world (although at times it felt like it!)
After playing, cuddling and sneezing over multitudes of cats, we own finally found out that she is mainly allergic to long hair cats BUT also some short hair cats if they lick their fur greatly - which long hair cats seem to do.
The only thing I can suggest is the on a daily basis use of anti histamines and hope that with daily exposure your allergies will get smaller quantity.
