Can one really overdose on antihistamine eyedrops?
The only thing that works for my seasonal allergies are Zaditor eye drops. However, they only work for a couple hours, not 12 close to it says on the box. Is it possible to have adverse effects from using them too often?
Answers: YES!
much of ANY antihistamine can result in a VERY bad dystonic reaction.....(oooooh, something you really really never want to have happen---could surface just out of the blue without "overdoseing" as well as going on because you DID take too much".)
I have had kith and kin members have this happen from a range of meds in that class---antihistamines/antiemetics and it is NOT a pleasant reaction....painful or you have a feeling like you are having the WORST panic attack EVER......(it is treated beside a beta-blocker OR benedryl....and it is painful and scary and can be permanate!)
also, try to STOP rubbing your eyes to begin with---(very tremendously hard to do/easy to say).
Look into an eye drop that you can FLUSH your eyes out with---ask the pharmacist about this----something you can FLUSH any pollens out of your eyes when you come inside from the pollens---keep your windows CLOSED contained by your car/home/office.
t time outside during peak pollen hours and the immediate hours back and after---like one -two hours on either side of it--as sometimes, they are wrong as to what time the pollen will peak time wise.
Eyes are precious---you do not want to over do anything on them.....I already enjoy damage from "visine-A" which I was told to use by a doc at one point---silly silly silly---the visine constricted the blood vessels keeping oxygen from reaching the surface of the eye.....which is VITAL.
You may also wish to try an ORAL antihistamine if it is really bad.....benedryl is the best so far, but the drowsiness factor is sharp for driving/being alert/and risky.
If you are home, not a bad idea.....if you have to drive--would not suggest it. (I am one of the few that tolerate it in good health, but too many people do not tolerate it like I do.....funny, I do not tolerate the "non-drowsy" ones though...lol).
luck to you.....
ps--your regular doc may be capable of help give you something to help beside the allergies as well---even a steroid if needed, or a rewetting eye drop, or to make sure you do not have an allergy to the Zaditor. (it is possible). Source(s): eye allergies
