HELP!! Virus or allergies??!!?
I have had the worst allergic like symptoms for give or take a few 12 days now including stuffy nose, sinuses, a LOT of phlegm-hack attacks (like asthma attacks) and dry throat (though this is gone now) and my singing voice has breaks on highly developed notes. I am completely freaking out now as it is lasting this long,
to my MD who put me on Reactine, Nasonex and Singulair and though the symptoms have improved my singing voice (and speaking voice) is still affected particularily on complex notes. -Late at night and early surrounded by the morning my speaking voice is groggy from this dry phlegm.
Though my dr wrote it off as allergies I'm starting to think this is a virus because the symptoms are still present and my bf had something similar simply before me. Has anyone had this happen to them or something similar??
!!
Oh!.. I almost forgot-I had exteme dizziness the last few days. EXTREME along with headache...
Answers: This could be a virus or throat/ear/sinus infection [based on the dizziness and headaches you mention] or allergies. I had an infection of that sort last year and it took weeks to draw from completely better. If your allergy medications are not getting rid of it after a week you might want to speak to your doctor again.
Also you should consider things in your environment that could be reinforcing this. Do you know what the humidity level in your home is? If the humidity is any too high or too low, it will promote viruses, bacteria, mold etc within your home environment where you are spending a lot of time. If you really do suspect allergies, check the places where you spend the most time for allergy inducers such as dust build up, or mold. You can never be too mean with what you are breathing in all the time.
Are you drinking satisfactory fluids? Most people are slightly to quite dehydrated adjectives the time. Maybe the reason you have this dry phlegm build up is because you are too dehydrated so adjectives your bodily fluids are dryer than they should be. Drink more liquids - especially liquids free of caffeine and some good sources of vitamin C to comfort fight off infections. Avoid dairy as it helps the phlegm build up. Dehydration is especially doomed to failure for singers as your vocal cords become less flexible if they are dry over a long time.
I have cold or allergy symptoms, I use a sinus rinse bottle - you mix up body warmth water with some salts to kind it match your bodies pH level. Then you squeeze it through one nostril to run out the other. It sounds nasty and it feel very strange at first, but it DOES help to speed up your recovery from infections, virus, and allergies. It also moisturizes your nasal passages and sinuses, and helps clear out the built up stuff.
"Morning voice" is not that unusual when you are having other problems. Try to win a little more sleep for a week or so. Make sure the room where you sleep has righteous humidity levels. And before you talk within the morning, start your day off with a chalice of warm water with only a little lemon juice in it to cut the phlegm and moisten your throat. Then start out near some gentle humming before you try talking at full volume to administer things a chance to loosen up. Try avoid HOT COFFEE first thing in the afternoon as that is very stressing/drying to your vocal folds plus it make you lose water later in the sunshine as it is a diuretic. If you speak a lot throughout the day, such as talking on the phone as sector of your job, then drink lots of clear fluids a little adjectives the time. Also try to avoid speaking at a high pitch and volume at the same time. That can help beside your 'evening' voice troubles.
I hope that helps! Source(s): I have 9 years of experience as a voice lecturer, and I have taken special training on vocal health and longevity.
