Allergic Reaction...?
My aunt took some Equate Nasal Spray from Walmart. Her eye is now swollen and she has a rash on her arm. The singular medicine she is allergic to is Aspirin. The medicine contains Phenylephrine. Are these two related, if not what should i do?
Answers: Since this answer is three days on, my suggestion is to contact the entrepreneur of Equate Nasal Spray, using the 800 number on the package, or by looking it up on the internet. Ask them for advice.
ainly your aunt should have stopped the nasal spray when she have the side effects and have gotten better by now, and if not -- you should phone call your family doctor and get treatment soon.
Phenylephrine causes blood vessel to constrict, and will raise blood pressure. If your aunt has high blood pressure, or is pregnant she should probably not be using Equate -- or any product near Phenylephrine. If your aunt has taken any drug with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), linezolid (Zyvox), phenelzine (Nardil), procarbazine (Matulane), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the second month -- she MUST NOT use phenylephrine, it is dangerous.
