Answers: There is no generic for the combination of drugs provided within Advair (fluticasone and salmeterol) . The fluticasone (the corticosteroid) alone is available as generic, but the salmeterol (a long acting beta agonist) still only comes as a brand (Serevent) so even if you tried to get two seperate prescriptsions, the Serevent may still be expensive. There is another newer combination corticosteroid+beta agonist called Symbicort, however it is still brand individual as well. The pricing for these medications depend on your insurance coverage, however without insurance they are typically still expensive.
ir is expensive. Have you spoken to your form care provider about this? There is another inhaled steroid formulation, but only your doctor would be capable of decide if this is an option for you.
I am attaching a link to the GlaxoSmithKline website for prescription assistance. These drug companies do hold programs to help those who need the medications but cannot afford them. It never hurts to ask. Also, sometimes doctors can provide sample to help from time to time.
