Should I make a clean breast to my doctor that I tried a friend's allergy prescription drug?

I have pretty bad allergies, and when they were flaring up unsuccessfully one day, my friend offered me one of his prescription allergy pills. I accepted, took the pill, and it worked wonderfully, No pill had ever help me that much before.
now that I know which one will work for me, how do I tell the doctor that? Do I transmit him I took someone else's prescription and it worked? Or will that make him angry, and he might possibly even report me for a crime (I assume it's a crime to take a pill that wasn't prescribed for you)?

Thanks!
Answers:    Your doctor is neither your police or your parent. But what you should tell him is that you've hear of this prescription, you know someone that takes it that has the same symptoms that you do and it does wonders for her and that you so far hold not found anything that works and would like to try it out. As a patient and customer you have the right to resolve or decline what is right for you. My doctor likes to prescribe name brand pills for me and when I go to the pharmacy I other ask for the generic. It works just as well. As a patient that is to say my right.
