PET ALLERGIES:Respiratory: Allergies & Sinus Problems?
If a person has never had a allergic recoil to cats all there life. Is it possible to become allergic to them at sometime?
Answers: yes it is possible, because cats differ contained by the amount of allergen they produce. However, they don't differ based upon breed, but rather from individual to individual.
people who are allergic to cats are allergic mostly to a protein to be exact made in the cat's saliva, sebaceous glands, and urinary/reproductive tract. This protein is called Fel d 1. Different cats produce Fel d 1 in different amounts, but a few generalization that can be made:
Female cats produce less Fel d 1 than male cats.
Light-colored cats generally engineer less than dark-colored cats.
When people have lived with an allergen for lots years (i.e., your previous cat), they become partially tolerant to that particular animal. Then, when there is an interruption within the constant exposure to that allergen, followed by a re-exposure, the reaction is stronger. This happens to young nation who go off to college and then come subsidise to visit parents and pets, and then find they are allergic to something in the home environment contained by which they grew up.
The reasons for this are not entirely clear, but it is a well-known phenomenon.
