My son is allergic to aluminum.....my macs!??! please minister to.?
Hi my 4 year old son was recently diagnosed near an allergy to aluminum - this has me gravely concerned because all the Macs in the house sport the shiny uni-body aluminum frame that have given me so much inner peace since The Switch.
s curious how I should tackle this situation - i have a see of 5 macs in my house all made of allumunim, I was thinking near some quick patchwork the cold/cool room in the basement can smoothly serve as a makeshift bedroom for him for several years. As he grows I can find alternate accomadations (but one step at a time).
My wife and I are stressing out - she insists we should swap the Macs for PCs but I refuse to sacrifice the inner peace I'v achieved since i made The Switch to Macs from PCs. The Macs I believe have boosted our house's resale efficacy as they are in themselves veritable works of art.
We just purchased the macs several months ago and it wont be long until it will be time to upgrade to the next generation of mac, where on earth the standard process of recycling my machines will occur as I purchase brand new computers beside the moderately superior hardware. By that time, who is to say that Apple wont swap the metal of choice from aluminum to something else (perhaps tungsten or antimony). Should we not at least wait for the next-gen mac to be released previously any drastic decisions are made?
With the PC I was just a uptight wreck. The interface did nothing for my inner sanctity and my sensitivity towards global environmental threats be almost non-existant.
nt to compromise with her, and perhaps build an an attic above the garage where he can live. The doctor's assure me the antigens that would trigger his anaphylaxis won't be inside range if this route is taken.
I believe this is a fair compromise but my wife is just one stubborn!
are going to make ur 4 year old son live surrounded by the basement then above the garage? I think you own your priorities WAY out of whack.
Personally, I would strictness about my own son's health more than my Macs. Building him a room to live in sounds OK, but is he going to be cooped up surrounded by that room all the time? That's not very fair, and he's one and only 4. I would suggest to switch to the MacBook Whites, I have one and they are awesome. Good luck.
As a person who lives their life avoiding exposure to allergens that mete out anaphylaxis - I implore you to please listen to your wife.
Your carbon footprint will mean nothing if you stomp on your childs wishes to get there. And your wife may never forgive you.
s it the metal itself?
If it's the metal - I have used a product call AFM Safeseal - Hardcoat sealer to seal many products to stop offgassing safely for my allergies. This may work for your problem.
It dries clear, and act like a shell - it's water based.
Off gas odors- If the heat from the inner power supplies cause the off gas then you'll have to enclose the computers within a computer box. You can make these out of plexiglass glued together with silicone epoxy resin. Then a hose is vented out the box and ran outside or under the flooring, similar to a dryer vent would be or into activated charcoal filters. Inside the hose where it leaves the box you install a aficionado (power supply fan from a PC) to draw the fumes out of the box. It's the fan drawing air out of the box continuously while surrounded by use that makes it safe. You can have a door on the front of the box that folds down so you can access the grand piano - otherwise it stays shut not allowing any fumes to get into the house. I put a link below to check out Dr Ziem's site for MCS.
The most important entry - your son, not the material things you have accumalated. Please know as a mother, and person beside allergies, I have been isolated and made to feel "different" by some member of our family. It cannot be undone... as you said computers will come and go - nearby is no compromise when it comes to your son's safety, and his feelings.
ng him less significant by moving him "out" of his space will affect him for the rest of his life. If I was your wife - I have to bring up to date you I would be moving "out" with him, and you could stay with your computers.
I hope you see the light - and apologize to her for even suggesting he move to the attic or underground room... this is his home and you are his Daddy - your job is to be his hero, not his ruler to ban him to another part of your castle.
