okay so i have been prescribed epipens for my peanut allergy...so whenever i eat peanuts i usually throw up...so if it happen hopefully it doesnt....but if it did, would i throw up and then use the epipen? just wondering...
Answers: I agree with the first party who answered - if you have a peanut allergy, why on earth would you eat peanuts? But anyway I thought epipens be only used if you went into anaphylaxis and you needed urgent medical attention.
you've went copious times throwing up from peanuts wihtout your epipen. so im pretty sure you only need it when you cant breathe or something, not just if you discern like your gonna puke. i mean, you lived without it for 14 years! so simply if you feel like you cant breathe,or your throat is closing, use your 'pen'.
First, I hope you don't mean that you plan to *intentionally* munch through peanuts and that you mean if you are accidentally exposed.
that said, you would only use the pen if you feel your throat closing up on you. (Hopefully you hold someone nearby to help you), then you pilfer benedryl and call 911. If the epi-pen is needed, that means a trip to the ER is also required. The pen is designed to give you in the region of 20 minutes to get to the hospital.
My son is allergic to eggs and milk. His reaction is also throwing up. If he is "fine" otherwise, there is no stipulation for the pen, but we watch him for any delayed reactions.
If you have any doubts on how/when to use it, speak to your doctor and/or pharmacist. They will help you learn what is best for your situation.
