Allergic hostile response to Penicillin?

My 7.5 month old had RSV about a month or so ago, which lead to an ear infection--Dr prescribed amoxicillin. A few days later, his ear was still bothering him so I brought him in again because I figure the antibiotic should be working after a couple days for sure. Due to the infection (and the amox not working) there was so much pressure that his eardrum ruptured. MY POOR BABY!! Anyway, since the amox wasn' t working, he prescribed augmentin and ear drops. I told them I have an allergy to augementin but they said that it didn't business. So 1 week later, my baby woke up with hives on his face/neck. I brought him contained by and the doc said it's an allergy to penicillin. That was on Thursday and he hasn't had augmentin since then. He is fitfully getting patches of hives still. I'm thinking they are coming when certain body parts are really warm. Like if I'm holding him or if he's sleeping on his side, that full side has hives. Tonight, I put him in the bathtub surrounded by warm water of course, and his legs and bottom be covered in hives within like 5 mins. They budge away quickly (like 20 mins or so). Is this normal? I'm not sure if it's still going on because of augmentin still being within his system or if it's something else?
aven't changed anything else--laundry detergent, lotion, etc. He hasn't had any new foods this past week. Any planning?

And yes, if it's still going on tomorrow, I will call the dr....
Answers:     I'm allergic to several medications and it takes anywhere from 3 to 7 days for my hives to subside depending on the dosage and the medication.
u need to enlighten ur Dr. u want the zpack for ur baby. It is a very good infection combatant for ears. sometimes different kinds of drugs wont work , if the ammox isn't working and the other makes him break out then , he wishes to be put on zpack for sure.
Augmentin has a fairly short half-life, so if the response was only to the medication, the longest it should last is a week. It is probably a appropriate idea to give him some Benadryl. It will make him greatly sleepy, but should make him feel much more comfortable. If they really seem to be bothering him you could also try giving him oatmeal baths. You could also try hydrocortisone cream, but beside him being so young be VERY careful. You should expect for this to elapse soon, but in the meantime just try to keep him comfortable and keep under surveillance for any signs of wheezing or other breathing issues. But as for the bath issue, the warm water can mete out more blood to flow to the skin, which could temporarily give him more hives after a bath.
time for a follow up with an allergist & ENT. treat the child beside liquid benedryl and watch for breathing problems.
