How long can you live after cancer?

My mum got cancer 10 years ago, and she is still alive and well. But all of a sudden, and I dont know why, I've be thinking about it recently. Does anyone know the chances of her living another 5 years?
Answers:     Well, if it went into a total remission, or got "cured" then as long as it doesn't relapse she should live merely as long as anyone else
It depends on several things like what sort of cancer she has, where within the body it is affecting, what stage it is in, Your mums age and general health, if near are any other complications or co-existing health conditions, etc.
he in remission now or does she still hold the cancer?

Her oncologist is the only person that knows the answers to adjectives these questions, but even still, how long a person lives for varies greatly depending on individual conditions, and not a soul will ever be able to give you a time limit.

All the very best
I have survived breast cancer for 14 years.
One of my friends have survived 11 years.
someone has cancer you only hear about them when they are off-colour, you dont get to hear about all the nation who have got through it and are well years following.
I would say your mum is one of the survivors.
My friend had a colostomy on 8th January 1987, he has have cancer 4 times since then including BREAST cancer. He is still alive and going strong, sadly his wife Em who had a similar bowel cancer problem died. My friend married again finishing year at the grand age of 81, he`d been a widower for 7 years until he found happiness again.
It can be conquered, it depends of what cancer you have and how soon it is found and treated.
You havenm't provided plenty invoratmaiton.
kind of Cancer?
is she being treated?
is she in remission?

sh i could give support to more but it depends on the type of cancer she had, how aggressive it was etc!
Some types of cancers approaching Breast and skin do have high rates of recurrencee but otherdon'tnt after being iremissionon and cancer free for so long here is every chance she will live as long as someone who has never had caner!
The truth iknow onene know when near time is and its best to live life to its fullest and just enjoy have your mum around.

he is in remission still, there really isnt a restraint on how long she will live, it depends on how much damage was done from chemo or radiation, but i would say that if shes be in remission for ten years, she should do fine. im not saying that the cancer could never come back bc to be precise always a possobility, but it sounds like shes doing good. angelic diet and exercise and smart lifestyle choices helps extend anyones life. good luck
There are several kind of cancer. Some are curable (usually involving some surgery), some go into remission with treatment (where it is controlled and maintained, and the long-suffering has recovered some or all quality of life) and some are aggressive and head to death.

It depends entirely on what kind your mother had, and what treatment she undergo 10 years ago. Certain cancers, if caught early enough and treated, won't hold any long term effects on the body. Some may result in the removal of the infected body parts (eg, uterus, breast, lung), which gets rid of the cancer, but may basis long-term health problems (strain on the heart, hormone imbalance, etc).

unt survived 48 years, gave birth to 2 children and fostered an amazing 50 more (sometimes solitary a few days) after her breast cancer diagnosis.

I use her for my survival inspiration for my own breast cancer.
good providence but no one really knows. take it afternoon by day and be grateful she made it this far. ;)
good luck hun:)
Good news, 10 year survival often indicates a cure. Source(s): GP for more years than I care to remember
My mum had cervical cancer when I was 15. I am in a minute 38 and my mum is sitting quite happily and healthily in my lounge so 23 years within.

Has something happened recently that may have triggered these atmosphere? There may be an underlying cause which you are transferring into worrying about your mum.
Every one is different. She could live another 5 years, but if she is immensely old maybe not as long.
a few months ago i found out my mom had breast cancer and i was so startled she was going to die, but shes on chemo now and the docs say shes going to be ok, 10 years is a long time and if she hasnt get it again then thats brilliant, there is a chance it can return but uv get to think positive, if it does there is so much tehy can now do. theres every casual she will live alot longer than another 5 years! i no people who have had it several times throughout their lives and are in a minute in there 70s.
