I am 27 and considering getting a mammogram. I have a LEEP at 18 and breast cancer runs on on granddads side.?

BEST LUCK 4 U I WILL PRAY FOR U !! UR CHANCES OF BE FINE ITS HIGH THEN SOME ONE OLDER AND I BET U FIND ON THE BEGINNER !
Have you discussed this with your Dr?
uld not expect one to recommend a screening mammogram at your age.

Young women (under 40) have dense breast tissue which stops mammograms anyone a useful diagnostic tool. If you must have a test, a MRI would be of more use.

There are sites where on earth you can calculate your risk, based on your personal medical history. Most only relate to women over age 30 as the risk formerly that is so slight. If you use one, and type in your age as 30 instead of 27, this will give you a rough guide, but your risk will be lower than the one calculated. Source(s): http://www.cancer.org.au/aboutcancer/fam…

It's unlikely that you will get a mammogram at 27; young women's breast tissue is too dense for mammograms to be a useful diagnostic tool.
s extremely babyish for breast cancer - fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed are under 30 and single 5% are under 40.

Are you sure breast cancer runs in your family? Only 5-10% of adjectives breast cancer cases are hereditary; there are two rare adjectives faulty genes known to be responsible for hereditary breast cancer, BRCA1 and BRCA2. If one of your parents carry one of these genes, then you have a 50% chance of inheriting that gene. If neither of them carry one of the genes, nor will you.

Presumably you had a LEEP because a pap smear indicated the presence of abnormal cervical cells; this does not increase your risk of breast cancer Source(s): hold had breast cancer
