About Tamoxifen and what happen if you stop previously its due time?
I am on tamoxifen but decided to stop if for a while; lately I get strong chest pains on borh sides of the chest.
n gastritis so sorry the ignorancy but; I started taking tamoxifen again and maybe I am wrong but the pain feels to stay smaller quantity long but I still have it.
If I were to stop tamoxifen would cancer return?
I have be on it for 3 and a half years.
Answers: I am on Tamoxiphen and in my opinion you should voice your concerns for your doctor. You don't know even if it is caused from this. You are supposed to pinch it for 5 years. I definately would not stop taking it I have been on mine for 2 months. I understand completely in the order of cancer ruining your life but to stop taking a medication after everything that you have been thru and it does run a strong person to fight cancer and go thru adjectives the treatments. Talk to your oncologist and they will be able to offer you the risk factors based on your pathology.

I have a risk of return in the first 5 years of roughly speaking 35%.
With Tamoxifen or Arimidex this reduces to about 25%.
5 years is nearly up and still adjectives clear.
You can only make an assessment on continuing or not if you are fully aware of the consequences either path.
Stopping Tamoxifen will not cause your cancer to return,. It increases your risk for it returning. I believe by about 3%. You should not stop or start any medication lacking discussing it with your oncologist first. You should report any pains to them as well. Source(s): I am a cancer registrar.
