When my mother was diagnosed beside cancer it was important that she knew that I would be at hand for her, in whatever way she needed. I found out adjectives I could about the cancer she had, her treatments, her doctors, the food she could eat, etc. I help her go food shopping, clean her house, sat beside her during her chemo treatments and helped her to feel that she had some input contained by her treatments. Although my mother eventually passed away due to her cancer I can tell you that the time we spent together was something that I will always remember. We talk about whatever she wanted to speak about. Some days it was about her disease, other days it be about her garden. Treat your family member matching way you always have. Just because they enjoy cancer (or any other disease) doesn't mean that you need to treat them as though they are incapable. Life continues, and should be enjoyed as much as possible.
