Colon cancer to lymph nodes.. any hope?
my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2007, have a resection shortly after that and then went through chemo for 9 months. she was told at first that it have been found in her lymph nodes but that the chemo had cleared her and it be.. (i dont remember if they told her it was gone or in remission) cleared. she had a port contained by the right side of her chest for chemo and decided to have that removed, only to fnd out two months then that the cancer had spread to her lungs, liver and her ovary. she immediately had a port put vertebrae in on the left side and restarted a more intense chemo. she was given two years for energy........ she has the option of surgery on her liver, but while recovering from surgery she can not have chemo therefor giving the cancer a providence to spread more...
o i guess what im asking is once cancer finds your lymph nodes is there really any hope for recovery and long term survival? should she enjoy the surgery or just stick with the chemo? again same situation with the ovary, it can be removed, but while recovering - no chemo... take into custody 22....
any suggestions? shes only 46 years old!

Hi. I'm sorry she's going through this.
dy can enunciate for sure, but with cancer, lymph node involvement isn't the biggest issue. Cancer travels through the lymph nodes, so if they are nearby nodes and it can be caught and contained, this could maybe be the stop of it. Unfortunately, in your mom's case, it's gotten beyond the lymph nodes and into other organs, which is more serious.
However, that doesn't tell the intact story. It sounds like she responded well to the first chemo and, if so, she has that and other option to attack this. What's important is that someone go with her to the onc's and net sure what he is saying is very clear.
But the onc would know best whether it makes sense to surgically remove the liver mets and how much risk this presents. He'll take various factor into consideration, including how aggressive it is and how responsive to chemo. I'd also ask him if there's any way to combine the liver and ovary surgeries if he thinks surgery might be productive.
I know how you feel. My dad go through colon cancer an treatments. The doctors say the type he has is not a matter of if it comes posterior but when. He is clear for now but it will come back they said an he has already contracted NO more treatments if he is gonna die anyways why go through the sickness of the treatment. He just wants something to treat the torment for it an live to the fullest of his abilities. I can understand that I don't want to loose my dad but I would rather see him live sunny for a few months not sick all way up until his time to go!! There's totally lil hope with her having it in the organs an lymph. I will hang on to you in my prayers
GOD bless you in your journey
