After a chemo treatment, is it everyday to hold a low white blood cell count?


Answers:    Yes it is thoroughly normal...If it gets to low you will need a blood transfusion.

lly it take way more than just 1 chemo treatment for your white blood count to drop. But it IS normal. When a doctor tell you yours is low, you need to be careful, because your white blood cells are those that hold your body healthy, and able to fight things resembling the cold and flu. If your count gets too low, you will suffer from anemia, and eventually need a blood transfusion. So if it's YOU with the low white blood count, communicate to your oncologist about ways to bring your count back up.

All chemo side effects can be different and different for different people. I'm on chemo and my blood counts have other been within normal inventory. Someone on the same meds as me, may have white or red cells drop. So typical? Not necessarily.

April and Tarkarri have given good answers. I was too be warned about the potential blood count drop. But for me it never happened. My blood counts didn't drop at adjectives. Some people are afflicted with that. That is why you have a blood exam a day before your chemo. If your red cell or white cell count is too low they delay the treatment. Source(s): Cancer survivor.
You hold some great answers here already, but every cancer experience is different. Our oncologist perscribed Neuopogen which I had to inject into my wife daily to increase her white blood count for Adriamycin and Cytoxin treatments for 15 weeks.

That drug alone costs $13,000 for a month's supply. Here are her counts for each week for first five weeks:
