AML M1 Relapse after 4 years?
My Mom relapsed after 4 years. She went for her regular check up last month and everything looked fine but soon aftre the check up she had hallucination and it lasted for 3 weeks . She went back for check up again and dr asked her for bone marrow biopsy and found that she have relapsed , her platlets are ok but her heamoglobin is 7.2. They did her a blood transfusion last week. Can someone please tell me the future course of AML m1 forgiving after 4 years.she is 56 years now.
Answers: When I relapsed, (Im the same type and subtype) they did two rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant. My chemo was ara-c (cytrabine, and a billion other names) and chlor... something, it be part of a clinical trial, but that was over two years ago, so... My transplant was allogenic and be part of the cord blood trials that used cord blood instead of marrow.
I was 23 when I relapsed, and healthy otherwise, so that may craft a difference in the treatment.
Ultimately, the best thing to do is keep break open communication with the doctors about her case and how they will be treating her.

Mom will probably be offered chemotherapy as a first course of treatment. Based on the chemo's results, her oncologist may consider stem cell transplant and/or monoclonal antibody treatment with Mylotarg.
