Hysterectomy-stage IV uterine cancer, honest impression?
My aunt was diagnosed in November with Stage IV uterine cancer. After 5 doses of chemo her oncologist have stopped the treatments because it is taking all her strength. Recently she had some vaginal bleeding and last Thursday be referred to a gynecological oncologist who wants to perform a full blown hysterectomy tomorrow! Her regular oncologist didn't even want to drain her abdominal fluid because he was afraid to introduce an infection by pricking her next to a needle! I think the gyne oncologist is scalpel happy. Has anyone else set of someone with stage IV to undergo this surgery? I am just afraid that it will do more mar than good. The cancer has already been confirmed surrounded by her lung membranes, lymph nodes, bowel and colon.
Answers: Stage 4 uterine cancers are pretty uncommon, but surgery is usually done. Did she not receive hormone treatment? Maybe her tumor did not have receptors for it? If the tumor burden cannot be decrease by chemo, surgery is the only other way to do it. The first oncologist probably did not recommend surgery as she was on chemo at the time, which compromises the immune system and would contradict surgery. She will most feasible feel better after surgery. I hope so.
get the surgery done fast!! Get it adjectives out of there./
