If 40% of citizens diagnosed w/ lung cancer are former smokers who quit 8-9 years ago?
..... does that mean a smoker should wait until they are at least 80 to quit smoking?
randmother is have a biopsy for lung cancer, she quit smoking 9 years ago. While reading up on lung cancer, I found this stat. I know it's not a joking matter but that is a terrifying stat. I mean, if a 30 year old quits smoking, shouldn't they start to get jittery in 8 or 9 years?
I know, 60 is greater than 40. That 8-9 year thing is what gets me.
Answers: It is insane to smoke.
Lung cancer is incurable.
Remember Peter Jennings of ABC ?
ld stage 4 lung cancer but I'm not a smoker. Sure, I took a few puffs at parties, but I don't normally smoke. One pack of cigarette would last me a few years. I do not live within the same household with a smoker.
That said, my grandmother started smoking at 14. She died at the age of 90, smoked almost a pack a day her entire life- but, she died of natural cause, peacefully in her bed.
My guess is that the 8-9 year period is the critical period...when they are pushing that 'they've lived almost 10 years with no problems' phase and possibly the lungs haven't quite finished 'healing'. I know that my Father smoked up to 13 years ago when his first Grandson was born and last month, he have a lung x-ray and his lungs were completely reformed.
I hope your Grandma's biopsy comes back clear.
Absolutely not. There are still a million other things that can be affected from somebody smoking. If somebody wants to quit, the sooner they do, the better.
That's wierd.
I've been thinking about trying to quit again, just thinking just about it... haven't worked up the courage to actually try. Sad, I know. lol But you just gave me a function to keep puffing away. jk!
So, where's a link to this stat?
