My girlfriend have the radioactive iodine treatment done for thyroid cancer can she hold sex?

Well as it says my girlfriend had the radioactive iodine treatment for her thyroid cancer. Now we had sex pretty much day by day and she really has a hard time not, it would have be impossible to not kiss if she didn't have her own home to say the lease. Now i was only wondering for both of our sakes when can she have sex again and it won't effect me. I love her but I don't want to have to take a pill for the rest of my existence because her radioactive iodine effected my thyroid when all we would have to own done is wait. Whoever responds to this I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Also please site you source I can't really base this on peoples opinion.
Answers:    I'm an oncologist MD - but I looked up a quotation for you anyway.
t;Some precautions are necessary because of the small amount of radiation that emanates from the neck where on earth the RAI is stored for a few days after treatment. While this radiation is beneficial for the person being treated, precautions are needed to reduce the radiation family and friends are exposed to.
In general, a distance of one arm's length should be maintained between the person treated and others who spend more than two hours subsequent to the patient in any 24 hour period. This applies especially to children and pregnant women. While brief contact near a person after treatment is acceptable, sleeping together, watching television, going to movies, long nurture or plane trips should be avoided for approximately 11 days after the treatment."

So, 11 days is the answer for prolonged contact.
The doctors treating your lady friend should have explained this to her and given her written information. Source(s): MD medical oncologist
Listen to Speedog. He's the only one on the forum that I believe is a true, TRUE Doctor. Why? He wrote a profile about himself. All the others that call themselves "doctor" have no profiles. Gee wonder why, so when he answers a ask, you got it right from the expert himself.
