Allergy to 6mm insulin needles.?
can someone suggest a viable alternative to the 6mm pen fine needles i use twice a day? i change the needle for respectively injection and move the sites around, but i am finding it makes my skin burn on contact. thanks for your time.
Answers: I realise, dear lady, that this might sound like a towards the back step, but you may need longer needles. I can't say as I've never met you and can't, for the life of me, see how much consignment you are carrying.
you are injecting are you injecting at a 90 degree angle or you inserting the needle at a 30-60 degree angle? I ask this as several diabetics are taught to inject at somewhere between a 30 to 60 degree angle. I was myself, when I be first diagnosed almost 30 years ago. That would have been appropriate in those days as the needles be almost an inch long and, as I'm sure you're already aware, the insulin needs to be injected into the subcutaneous tissues (the fatty tissues).
If the needle isn't penetrating severely enough you may well find that you're getting a small reservoir of insulin built up, which can cause discomfort. (I know this from personal experience.)
I longing you the very best of luck in getting the information that you need.
It may not be the hypodermic. If you are shooting air before injecting, it may actually be a tiny bit of insulin at the tip of the syringe which is causing a reaction. Its usually a preservative, not the insulin itself.
If changing syringe brands doesn't help, then try a longer needle as suggested, if it still burns, try a different brand of insulin.
could other squirt a bit of insulin directly on your skin and see if you get any reaction to it. This can take some time, so depart from it on for a while.
The needles are sterile, but you can still get an infection from bacteria on your skin. Ask me how I know. I am back to swabbing both since and after injecting now.
luck Deb.

You inevitability to talk to your doctor, as there could be a few reasons why your skin burns.
Do you use sterile swabs? I never do, but some people say that can have a similar effect.
Hope things work out.
