170/110 blood pressure - harmful?
my mother is72 and i think this is really high

, that's pretty darn high. And at 72 she fragile plenty that a pressure that high could cause heart troubles or even a stroke.
You should give her doctor a call upon so he can advise you as to the best course of action. He/she'll most likely merely have you give her more of one of her medications, but it would be irresponsible of me to push for that without knowing her history.
