A stroke is when blood is cut off from your brain.
There are two different types of strokes or CVA's (cerebrovascular accidents). One is called ischemic and is caused by a blood clot. The other is called hemorrhagic and is cause by blood vessel rupture/bleed. The problem is with either that area of the brain is not getting the blood supply at hand for oxygen supply it needs.
emic strokes are the ones with sudden onset of symptoms. Those are the ones where on earth the person all of a sudden drops their coffee cup. This happens because the clot suddenly blocks the blood flow.

With a hemorrhagic stroke a being may notice weakness or slurred speech that gets progressively worse base on the size of the bleed. If it is a small bleed then symptoms may progress slowly as the brain still receives some of it's blood supply. However a large bleed may show a more fast progression. Also with a bleed it can take up to 72 hrs to see the full effects of the stroke.
