AED on a child beside a pulse?

i know that if a child has a pulse with a rate under 60 you are supposed to start cpr. i be wondering if you would apply an AED though because they do have a pulse
Answers:    Actually depends on the AGE of the child (you would only do CPR on an INFANT with a pulse below 60, because their normal pulse is over 120). In general, never do CPR on a beating heart. You can apply an AED to anyone. All AEDs do is read rhythms. They are preprogrammed to merely do certain things (like apply a shock) to certain life-threatening rhythms, that's why anyone can use them. If you apply an AED to someone, and it's not a life threatening rhythm, the AED will say-so "NO SHOCK". Source(s): ER nurse
