... split within aorta ?! ...?

my boyfriends dad just went to the hospital with a "tear" within his aorta. hes 65 and had open heart surgery right out of high institution. hes also had minor heart problems throughout his life. i dont know how serious it is yet because he freshly got there. i assume its pretty serious ... obviously . but what are the likelihood or dying and recovering from it? is there a possibility that he could die :( . is the surgery to fix it complex, difficult and life threatening ?
ks within advance.
Answers:    If he has a "tear" in his aorta, I am going to assume you denote a Dissection. YES this is very serious and it does carry a high mortality rate. I would budge sit with your boyfriend during this time just in valise and pray he makes it out ok. These dissections also have a chance of stroke as capably. Dissections kill.

If your are talking about an aneurysm, as long as it hasn't ruptured, the surgery isn't as complicated as a dissection. If it did rupture, its an extremely large mortality rate, like the dissection.
very serious although surgery recovery is getting your strength back with time, just a matter of getting him into surgery nifty enough to keep him from bleeding to death. Straight facts. Source(s): Registered Nurse 10 years Critical Care Cardiac/Stroke
