Alcohol increased my heart rate. Why?
I'm 16, yes I know i'm underage, bla bla bla, who didn't at that age? anyway when I was drinking with my friends I noticed my heart rate increased to going on for 100-120 beats a minute and I don't think I was even tipsy. I enjoy no known heart problems but I was so worried I stopped drinking and my heart rate eventually over a few hours went down.
his to do near the alcohol or anything else? I wasn't running about or anything.
I was drinking Budweiser and had some whiskey if that help.
Answers: Alcohol causes blood vessel dilation and an drop in blood pressure. The body compensates for this by increasing the heart rate and the force of the hearts contractions. It's unlikely that it will bump up your heart rate any significant value (60-100 is normal) because the CNS depressing activities of alcohol eventually outweigh these seemingly paradoxical affects.
