I hold a interrogate almost MRSA, any give a hand will be great!?

I went to the doctor today about a swollen red bump on my neck to be precise excruciatingly painful to touch. The doctor said it looked like MRSA and has referred me to an ear mouth trunk and throat specialist tomorrow to lance it and further diagnose it. I work as a cook at a restaurant as one of my jobs and he said I shouldn't handle other peoples food until they achieve a clear diagnosis. My question is can MRSA be transmitted by contact through food? I called work to tell them I have been written out until Monday and my boss told me that i need to come to work anyway that doctors don't write people out of work for MRSA, this obviously made me very very very angry because I don't want to be the raison d`¨ētre of an epidemic. I won't be going to work till Monday anyway but I would still like to know if it can be spread through contact, I should also mention we aren't required to wear gloves at the restaurant, though they are available if needed. Any help is much appreciated.
Answers:    Yes, MRSA can be spread through contact. The reason that it's such a big business deal is because it is bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics. It can really be harmful to family with lowered immune systems like babies or the elderly or people beside an immune disorder. I would do as your doctor says :)
