As a surgical tech, how would thrush affect me?

I had a patient today that was ate up near oral thrush and I was just wondering as a surgical tech what are my risks of catching it and what do I need to do to prevent me from getting it. I am not really concerned I basically have children and I dont want to risk them catching it.
