Abdomen ultrasound.. what to expect.?
I basically have an ultrasound tomorrow as ive had slightly a bad urine infection and they are hoping to look more into what the cause was. So my doctor have booked me in for a Abdomen ultrasound. It says on my letter that i should hold a full bladder, but it dosnt say anything about wether i can eat anything? I be also wondering what they will actaully be looking at? I mean will it be just my kidneys or what? Has anyone ever had an belly ultrasound before because they have had a urine infection, that could backing me? I just want to no what will happen during the ultrasound and wether im allowed to have breakfast or not? as my appointment is at 9:15 surrounded by the morning. Also will the person who is doing the scan be able to tell me straight away by looking, what is up?
ks for any help/advice surrounded by advance.

Answers: I freshly had an abdominal ultra-sound but it was because they thought something was wrong beside my gallbladder or kidneys. It is just like having one when you are pregnant. They put a thaw out gel on your stomach and look it over with the wand, take some still pics and then report them rear to the doctor for examination. They arent suppose to tell you what the results are.I didnt have any special restrictions on what I could and couldnt put away or drink, beings that I was at the hospital already.I ended up having an inflamed appendix and have surgery to have it removed.....hopefully yours is less serious.Good luck!
I have had a few stomach ultrasounds past and its a breeze ! ( I wasnt pregnant lol it was for inflammation in my stomach ) xD
cally you just put away and drink as normal on the day , turn up at the hospital , register , wait and afterwards you get called into a room. You lay down on a bed thing and they verbs your top up a little to expose your tummy . Then they put this cold gel on so the images show up better - just feel a bit cold sometimes thats all lol.
The doctor will then get what looks resembling a barcode scanner from a shop and slide it over your belly , taking pictures of the inside of you through your skin - you cant feel a thing ! :) Also the metaphors come up on a screen next to you so you will probably be allowed to see the inside of you if you ask , which is pretty cool ! Then the woman gives you a daily towel to rub the gel off and you get to go home !
Ultrasounds are honestly nil to stress about , there actually rather fun lol . Make sure you eat and have plenty to drink beforehand so they can see the area clearly ! Good luck for tommorow :D
Honestly to me it's abit odd that you are having an tummy ultrasound for a urinary tract infection. The reason why you should have a full bladder is that U/S only functions contained by bodies filled with water.
It have nothing to do with food. I think the doctor aims to visualize the renal collecting system, To poke about for any stricture or fibrosis caused by the infection.
fer it is just of very little importance and is merely routine work, unless your doctor suspects something else.
Best regards,
