I enjoy be told I enjoy ITP-I'm 36 weeks pregnant. What does this connote?

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and at my last appointment my Doctor told me that I have something called ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura). He said that he would own to refer me to another hospital as the hospital I was planning on having my baby surrounded by didn't have a store of platelets. I know what platelets are and what they do, but I don't understand much about this disease. He said he would refer me to a hematologist but as of however I haven't seen anyone. I have an appointment with my exotic doctor on Thursday but I'm getting really concerned. Is there anyone who has ITP, if they know what causes it, what will come up when I'm in labour and also recovery times?

From what I read through of your disorder, it looks like the severity of your condition depends on just how many platelets you own (20,000 / 50,000 / 75,000 etc).

"Normally, the immune system makes antibodies (proteins) to exchange blows off germs or other harmful things that enter the body. In ITP, however, the immune system attacks and destroys the body's platelets by mistake. Why this happens isn't certain." (http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Dise…

Your recovery time will be determined by what happens when you give birth. Only once you've have the lil' tyke will anyone know. I daresay you will be given platelet therapy before you give birth (in the hours before) to ensure your supply is tough enough to ward off anything awful happening.

<3 Take attention to detail!
Because of the low count of platelets your blood doesn't clog normally so there is a high risk of massive bleeding, especially dicey if your gonna have a c-section. In adults ITP is usually chronic. ITP can carry a risk of internal bleeding also which of course is a risk surrounded by LAbour as it strains your whole body. I do not know what causes ITP and I do not have it any. http://www.itpeducation.com/ check it out, it's meant for doctors and such but i think you might get something out of it. Best of luck to you
