Kidney Transplant Requirements?
My mother is on dialysis and has been told by her doctor that she is not eligible for a transplant because she has pre-myeloma. However, another doctor have told her to apply for a living donor (my kidney) transplant anyway-- that she might be able to get one. Does anyone know if she definately would or would not be eligible?

Answers: Often, it depends on the transplant center and the surgeons. The first transplant center refused to evaluate me. My dr. disagreed; he christen his medical school alma mater and they agreed to see me. They had no problems w/ doing the transplant. My cardiologist also did not want me to get a transplant (but here I am, 4 years out from transplant, doing great). I have a kidney & pancreas, by the way.
I do not know for sure if she would be eligible or not, but I would pursue it. She has nothing to lose, and profusely to gain by a transplant.
