Strange medical "disease"?...?

This question is completely serious. And, because of this, I've no idea why I'm asking it on Yahoo! Answers, of all places. Ever since I be about 2 years old, I've done a very peculiar thing: I scrape the insides of my cheeks with one of my fingernails, next chew...and eat (yes, eat) the skin. This is a strong compulsion for me. I'm now 26, and will still do this, short even knowing that I'm doing it. Now, I've asked a few Doctors about this, and they stare at me blankly, then tell me that it's "self mutilation". Welp, upon further research into "self mutilation", I realize that I DO enjoy some of those tendencies (picking my skin until it bleeds), but this particular issue doesn't seem to be contained by the description. I'd like to know if this has an actual name. I've also be told that it's a nervous habit, but like I stated above, my Ma have told me that I did this since a very young age. This question is more simply out of curiosity than anything else. Thank ya muches!
Answers:    neurosis, self destructive, underlying anxiety,unresolved... only you can change it.. if you researched what grows under fingernails, similar to worm eggs, you wouldn't eat it. animalplanet.com/monstersinsideme
