im going to uni 5 hours away and my ibs is awful. im terrifies i will be in pain on my own, and surrounded by my halls there are only showeres so its not as if i could merely have a hot bath to help the strain. im used to my mum being with as i often woozy and have ended up in hospital... should i permit this top me going to uni?
Answers:    Ella, there's no easy answer to this, but I can tell you a little story going on for a very good friend of mine.
has severe Crohn's Disease and IBS, and three years ago be in exactly the position you're in now - spookily similar. She forced herself to stir, and has just graduated uni as a (brilliant!) registered nurse - I couldn't be more proud of her, and adjectives her friends, family, and her very supportive tutor feel only just the same.

Going to uni was a terrifying notion for her, but she soon made some good friends who she could trust to look after her when she needed it, and she is a much more confident and happy person for the together experience.

I would say to you, at least hand over it a go. If it turns out to be too much you can always go home, but if you don't offer it your very best shot now you may always wonder how things might own been if you'd given it a go. I really think you enjoy a great chance of making it work, and a great opportunity to make yourself very proud (and incidentally everyone else drastically proud too - but it's really about you). I wish you the very best Ella.
No, you should walk to uni and not let your IBS control you. You need to control it. Have you seen the doctor nearly the pain? There are some very effective meds such as spasmodal that relieve with bowel pain. Also simple changes to diet can really lend a hand. I would suggest seeing your doc and also a nutritionist to help with your diet.
