Levothyroxine :what exactly is it for-over or below alive thyroid?
i`m quite confused about the difference in drugs used for over helpful and under active thyroid.
someone told me they actually use indistinguishable drug (levothyroxine) for both diseases .
thyroxine is a generic drug for Levoxyl. It is used for an over active thyroid(hyper thyroid),I know this because I've been diagnosed with this condition and hold to take it every day for the rest of my life.To swot up more about this go to www.webmd.com and type it in the hunt bar.It will give you a lot of adjectives info regarding this.Hope this helps you out.
Not true at adjectives.
Leothyroxine would kill someone with an overactive thyroid. It is used to treat under live thyroid.
confusion is that doctors like to treat over active thyroid (hyperthyroidism) by giving the patient iatrogenic hypothyroidism (under moving thyroid). Iatrogenic means that you have a disease because a doctor gave it to you. Some doctors assassinate the thyroid with radiation, or sometimes even remove it entirely in cases of hyperthyroidism. So you wind up next to whatever disease caused the hyperthyroidism, PLUS iatrogenic hypothyroidism, which requires treatment, blood tests, and levothyroxine for the rest of your existence.
under active...
The confusion comes in because heaps times when a thyroid is over active, the dr will kill it off so that you can become lower than active and take a pill to regulate it.
Levothyroxine is used to correct low levels of thyroxine explicitly normally present in the body If this low then the doctors do the question paper and assess how low you are and then prescribe this medication and adjust the dose on a regular basis
I have under active thyroid. I've have it for years. I've been on Synthroid, Levothyroxine, Armour Thyroid and Nature-Throid. By far the two best medications are Armour Thyroid or Nature-Throid. I did not feel all right on Synthroid or Levothyroxine. Armour Thyroid is hard to get right now because of a general shortage. So ask your doctor to put you on Nature-Throid. Studies have shown that people have a smaller amount symptoms and generally feel much better on Armour Thyroid or Nature-Throid than they do on Synthroid or Levothyroxine.
Having low thyroid it is not like a cold that will progress away within a few days. Low thyroid once you get it you have it the rest of your existence. But don't worry, the medication is very cheap. My prescription for 30 days is only $10.
ting a low thyroid beside iodine can be harmful and actually make the condition worse. Do not self treat! If you want to use iodine supplements speak to your doctor first. Source(s): I've have thyroid problems for about 55 years.

Levothyroxine is used for an underactive thyroid. There is a drug for overactive thyroid, but I don't know the name. I read roughly it on a bulletin board somewhere.
