About Multiple Sclerosis...?

Initially I've been to the Doctor to talk about my shameful back pain and I left the Doctor's bureau with a diagnose of Multiple Sclerosis, how is that possible?? I still having many doubts around this diagnose! Since that time in 2005, after many Resistance I begin to read for a time about MS, what were the consequences if I didn't get within any treatment and I got really scared.
Diagnosis MS usually happens like this:
- the neurologist talks to you roughly speaking your symptoms, your medical history and your family's medical history to rule out inherited diseases and symptoms caused by stress or anxiety

- your will have to give blood samples, which are tested for Lyme's disease, infections, viral diseases etc. deeply everything that can mimic MS symptoms - you might also be given an EEG

- If your blood tests (and EEG) comes back all clear, next you'll be sent for an MRI scan
the MRI scan shows typical MS lesions, the neurologist might diagnose you then and there, but more commonly, you will enjoy to have a lumbar puncture, where they check your spinal fluid for the oligoclonal bands, which are present within approx. 85% of all patients with MS and not in natural people (although there are other diseases that can cause oligocolonal band in your spinal fluid)

- If the MRI scan doesn't show lesions, the neurologist can still send you for a lumbar puncture.

Since it is so difficult to diagnose MS, there is not one test that can determine 100% whether a patient have MS or not.

Pain is not a common symptom with MS, but it's not unheard of either.
can other ask for a second opinion and ask your neurologist about your MRI and lumbar puncture results. If you do have MS typical lesion in your brain or spinal cord and oligoclonal bands in your spinal fluid, next I'm afraid you might just have to accept the diagnosis. If you are one of the border-line cases next to no MS typical lesions or with no oligoclonal bands, you can ask for an modern evaluation with a new MRI scan and a new lumbar puncture.

Finally, in that are other treatments than Tysabri or Inteferon Beta, if your post injection symptoms have not gotten better after 6 months of using the medicine, you can ask to try out another one (Rebif, Copaxone, Avonex). If your back problems are steadily getting worse, you should see your neurologist again.
Multiple sclerosis is sometimes uncomplicated to detect on a head CT. Ask your doc if you can look at your CT films or have another doc look at the CT films with out unfolding them that its MS. Make sure you are going to a neurologist, sometimes your local doc will not have a clue as to what is going on. If you went to 5 neurologists and they all said it be MS, I would take their word on it. Please see the image below.

There are hundreds of problems that can cause fund pain and it effects a huge portion of the population. I used to have incredible back misery and I took up swimming and it went away. Ask your doc to set up an exercise program for you if you are healthy enough to exercise.
