What is it call when a artery get wrapped around a testical causeing discomfort and distress?

My boyfriend has surgry a while back on his balls because a capillary was wrapped around his testical cutting off circulation to his ball. He was puking and his tomach was cramping. almost like he get kicked in the nuts. But when he went to the hospital that had to do an emergency surgry on his testicals to remove the artery or he could ahve died. Any Idea what this is called and why it happend? Serious answers please.
