Answers: It will be helpful for your doctor to culture your throat and see what's growing. The point you are having recurrent tonsillitis is that there may be a colonization of strep that have taken permanent residency in your tonsils. Anytime your immune system is challenged it can flare up. Or, if you enjoy taken antibiotics it may suppress the infection just enough to appear "gone" but it really isn't. Unfortunately the cure is a tonsillectomy. See your primary doctor for a recommendation of a fitting ENT doctor. Good luck!
Hopefully you took all the medication and as it was prescribed. If you didn't, that can be one reason why. I'm surprised you be given antibiotics for tonsillitis...are you sure it wasn't strep? If by chance it was you need to tolerate your doc know right away because untreated strep can lead to rheumatic fever which can damage the heart. If it's simply tonsillitis and it comes back 4 times in a year, they'll probably have your tonsils removed. Doctors are cautious to do this now that they've discovered the tonsils are a big part of the lymphatic, (immune) system. The criteria for tonsillectomy are four tonsil related problems contained by one year or persistent swollen tonsils. Hope this helps.
Believe it or not but I get tonsillitis two to three times a year. I'm on the waiting list to get them taken out, because I don't enjoy private health insurance. I'm not sure why i get it so often but I find that I can prevent it if I know the signs and use an anti-inflammatory mouthwash - you can gain ones with anaesthetic to numb the throat, great if you can't even swallow water like me when I've get it bad. Try gargling with mouthwash twice a hours of daylight too, this will help prevent a build up of bacteria on your tonsils.
You may want to get checked for mono - it is similar to tonsillitis and could explain why it is numerous. Better to be safe than sorry.
ou hold trouble with pills tell your doctor - you can definitely win antibiotics in a liquid form, even ask for a child flavour if you prefer. Source(s): haven't had tonsillits since September ending year!
