Kidney transplant and dogs?

My cousin had an unsuccessful transplant (long story).
is this? And can she have one in time?
A brief description of her condition: Severe Lupus, she needed a kidney asap so they give her one that didn't match and hoped the anti-rejection drugs would allow it to survive. They haven't worked and because of the Lupus she already, obviously, has no immune system. What is it roughly dogs that can affect her at this time?

She didn't ask the docs why so this is why i am asking yahoo-ers :)
Answers:     Thats unusual. I know LOADS of people with transplants myself, and not even one person have been told not to have any kind of pets. Maybe it is something to do near the lupus. I would actually call up the hospital and ask them about this.
Here is what I was told after my kidney/pancreas transplant.
But he never told me to stay away from the dog. I think she needs to check w/ the surgeon. I have not hear of someone not being able to have a dog any, following transplant (successful or not).
I can only think it is because of fear of infection. The auto immune disease lupus have already compromised her immune system People with lupus are often very sensitive to allergens too - pollen & grass, pets
Found this re liver transplant patients...
Make sure any pets are carefully screened by a veterinarian. It is not advisable to have birds as pets, as their dissipate contains a high level of germs. Do not handle any type of pet fritter away.
I'm gonna own to agree with Jelly Belly on this, I think the lupus may be an issue. My son had a kidney transplant and the doctors know I had pets, they never mentioned it being a problem. Source(s): donated kidney to my son
