What happen if hose enter a Tracheostomy?

I have a question to answer as apart of my Tracheostomy training...What happens if hose down enters the Trachy?
Answers:     Aspiration pneumonia is another possibility. This happens when wet enters the lungs, no matter how scant or large, and can organize to infection, usually pneumonia.
As a Respiratory Therapist we flushed tracheotomies all the time. But that was beside saline. Surprisingly it wouldn't have that much more effect. It'd certainly make the tolerant cough and loosen up some of the sputum but you're usually there with a suction catheter.
t's sterile water don't worry just about it. I wouldn't use any other kind of water. Saline is easy to clear. 1/2 tsp in a quart of water.
The lungs have a great surface nouns and will simply soak up water as long as you don't go crazy with it.
Yeah, I know some populace will tell you that it gets absorbed into the blood stream and cause problems there. That's just not true.
I hope it goes lacking saying that it's not a good idea to put more than 10-20cc surrounded by the trach tube over a period of 5 minutes standing by with the suction catheter.
rtle would cause the patient to cough and splutter.
A bit more than a bit and you would have to use a suction machine (it has a catheter to put into the trache tube).
Quite distressing for the forgiving in all cases, especially if they are not used to have a trache. Source(s): Years on an ENT unit.
