My brother lately have a double lung transplant. I'm basically curious-- why is he on a ventilator?

The surgery was finished by monday morning, and he's currently in the intensive care section. He has a whole bunch of tubes coming out of him draining fluids and feeding him and stuff, which I take. But he was put on a ventilator after surgery (which makes sense) but why is he still on it? Shouldn't he be able to breathe on his own beside his new lungs? Sorry if this is a stupid question, im just worried. By the mode my brother is 17 and he has CF.
Answers:     They have cut the nerves to the antiquated lungs to put in the new lungs. It will take a bit time for them to be able to move air all on their own. Normal.
I think you should probably talk to your parents about what the doctors say-so as far as why he is on the respirator because no one on here is going to be able to give you a resounding answer because we aren't his doctors.
ou ask your parents to be honest with you about your brother's medical condition, I am sure they will be.
I will say-so a prayer for your brother, that he has a long life ahead of him.
He's on a ventilator to assist with breathing and take the strain bad his pulmonary system while he gets through the first part of recovery. He may be on them for awhile. A double lung transplant is something like as serious a surgery as you can possibly imagine. The risks are high, very glorious but when you have cf the choices otherwise or pretty much nil. I hope he gets off the vent soon. prayers your bearing
