Is breathing surrounded by dust from the house worse for your vigour than smoking?

Gathered up dust in furniture, dust bunnies. I know that isn't really healthy for the body. But my dad complains that it's worse for your health than smoking. That's why when I enlighten him smoking is bad, he says it's not as bad as breathing contained by the dust from the house. I don't believe him, but there is no proof for me to look up on the web. I've tried.
