Anyone else enjoy a contiuous stream of uncharacteristic paps and colposcopies?
I've had a battery of colposcopies, and I hate them so much! Nothing ever comes of them, but the continue to snip off yet another pinch of my cervix containing unexpected cells. Does it ever end?
oc said I could have a LEEP where on earth they just cut of the part of cervix the cells develop on to resolve those issues...and it sounds so much better than colposcopies every single year...but I'm afraid it will shorten my cervix and grounds me to have unsccessful pregnancies. I already had a complicated pregnancy that resulted in my daugther's prematurity (3 months early) over a year ago. She is fine, but I want her to hold a brother or sister one day...and I'm just not sure what to do! Anyone else have/had this issue?
Answers: Well, I only have one abnormal pap, but that led a diagnosis of adenocarcimona in situ. I have surgery, now I have to have a colposcopy every 3 months.
They do suck, but honestly they aren't that discouraging. And this comes from someone who had the WORST colposcopy experience EVER. I am allergic to that vinegar stuff they use, and I know this is TMI, but imagine your vagina swelling shut, but it can't because you have a speculum surrounded by keeping it open. You don't even want to know what happened next . . .
Just tell your doctor you want to be as conservative as possible. She could remove as little as 1 or 2mm from the surface which would not affect the integrity of your cervix AT ALL. Even if they don't get the entire lesion, the LEEP is very significant. Some people think that's because the LEEP causes an injury, and your body know that area needs attention. It basically creates an immune response which help your body fight the HPV and the abnormal cells resolve themselves.
If you are already at risk for preterm birth, ask around cerclage. They sew your cervix shut during pregnancy. It's simple and effective.
