Can you enlighten me what AIDS is?


Answers:    I can't remember what the A stands for. I is immune D is deficiency and S is syndrome I think.It's an STD and it attacks your immune system and makes you stunted and susceptible to everything.

AIDS is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is not an autoimmune disorder, which is when your immune system reacts against your body, but caused by a virus that infects and destroys your immune cell. The virus that causes AIDS is HIV, human immunodeficiency virus. Like another said, this virus originally was found in apes and monkeys (as simian immunodeficiency virus, SIV), and be transmitted to humans through hunting of apes and monkeys resulting in exposure to infected blood. The virus than adapted to humans resulting in the modern strains of SIV.

HIV-1 and HIV-2 infection is incurable and results in AIDS, which allows opportunistic infections that eventually destroy a person. We can treat HIV infection to delay the development of AIDS, but it is an incurable disease.

HIV-1 transmission risk can be decreased by the use of condoms for sex (including oral sex), but this still is not absolutely locked.

HIV-1, the HIV virus most common in the US, does not result in AIDS until in the order of ten years after infection, but a person can pass it on to others before AIDS develops, and won't hold sypmtoms during that time. However, HIV-1 can be detected within 6 months of infection by an HIV-1 test.

Well AIDS is a sexually transmitted disease that originally came from monkeys but somehow passed to humans. If some one has Aids and their blood gets into your blood you will seize aids as well. Aids can be very bad within the long run and it cannot be cured. Aids will literally destroy your immune system which means that if you get a small cold you can win very ill because your immune system has be destroyed by the aids virus. Hope that helped :D
