How can chlamydia affect pregnancy?

i've had chlamydia for 4 months over a year ago. i didn't have any symptoms apart from some belly cramps when i first got it. when i found out i took the tablets to take rid of it & had a test done again to make sure its gone. i want to bring pregnant this year but i'm worried how the STD will have affected my chances of things going ably or getting pregnant at all. does chlamydia increase the risk of having a miscarriage or a disability in the babe? is there any tests i can do to find out whether it has artificial my fertility? shall i just go to my normal gp or shall i see a gynaecologist?
